BIO

Daniel J. Morikawa, PE, GE has been involved in Geotechnical Engineering for over 30 years in the southern California area since receiving his bachelor of science in Engineering Geology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and earning his Continuing Engineering Education degree from California State University, Long Beach in 1985. He has served as a principal for the past 15 years. His extensive experience includes hillside and open land grading, commercial, industrial and residential development, public works/infrastructure, management and execution of quality assurance for field and laboratory divisions and engineering staff, coordination with related disciplines, and contract administration.

An expert in Southern California specific developments, Daniel Morikawa uses his extensive experience in testing, preparing, and investigating potential build sites and current properties. Some of his experience focuses on shallow or deep foundations, permanent and temporary shoring design, high-rise and subterranean level construction, below slab vapor barriers and retarders, and retaining structures. His knowledge in seismic hazard evaluations and mitigation, ground stabilization, and soil mechanics is a key component in determining building requirements for earthquake-prone regions. Morikawa is highly regarded for his expertise in soil cement/lime stabilization for pavement construction, asphalt pavement rehabilitation, design, and construction, and concrete pavement design and construction for highways and airports.

Mr. Morikawa has worked on various high-profile commercial and public projects including hospitals, airports, military and space installations, recreational entertainment locations, refinery and chemical facilities, universities, wastewater treatment plants, postal offices, business parks, residential developments, and public works.

Morikawa has served as an expert witness in high-profile cases that require professional knowledge of forensic earth science investigation and evaluation. Some of his distinctions include being a California Registered Civil Engineer and a Registered Geotechnical Engineer. He also is certified as a Nuclear Density Gauge Operator as well as a Radiation Safety Officer. Mr. Morikawa is associated with the American Society of Civil Engineers.
